Description of Burton: Men's P1 SZ Snowboard Binding
Altrec.com Product Description:
Don't waste time cranking into your ratchet-style binding straps this season--especially during early morning fresh tracks. Burton's P1 SZ binding has new, ratchet-free Speed Zone Ankle buckles with a one-hand feature that's easier and faster to click into than most seatbelt designs. This new strap is also built to give you more leverage with far less effort (so don't be surprised if you cinch into your new P1 SZ straps a little too tightly until you're used to it). The P1 SZ has amazing cushy interface that's one of the best designs for riders who want to improve their comfort. It features a padded B3 Gel baseplate cushioning and the same Super Capstrap II found on Burton's ultra-responsive bindings. The P1 SZ's versatile flex evolves from a uniquely blended baseplate made from short-glass fiber, polycarbonate and nylon. The P1 SZ also has Burton's Living Hinge Hi-Back, a perfectly padded design that eliminates excess hardware bulk without undermining the structural integrity. The Living Hinge is set up to allow you to adjust your forward lean settings independent of the rotation, so you can tweak the rotation once for the entire season and play with the forward lean as snow conditions change. A pre-curved triple-axis telescoping Superstrap II cinches in your custom fit with a new tool-free strap length adjustment feature that does away with the need for box cutting knives or butcher scissors. This means that you can play with your binding sizing to adapt to a variety of boot sizes. The Super Capstrap II has a 3D contoured shape that molds to your boot toe, pushing your heel back firmly into the binding while holding the foot down for better response. If you're looking for a top-end binding for all-mountain riding but you don't need the space age composites found in extreme competition snowboard bindings, Burton's P1 SZ is everything you need for comfort and durable dependability--especially when you're racing the other powder hounds to the best face shots on the mountain.

Built for Comfort I was initially surprised by the Speed Zone mechanism on the bindings. The ankle strap 'clips in' like a seatbelt and then you pull a plastic toggle to tighten. There is a retractable cord inside the toggle which leaves me feeling slightly apprehensive over it's longevity. It just doesn't match the bomb proof build of the rest of the bindings. That said I doubt Burton would have released it, on what is one of their top end bindings, without testing it out. I have yet to try them out for real but the bindings clip in and do up tight like a dream. Comfy too! The bindings themselves are built really, really well, toe and ankle straps are amazing and tidy up those loose strap ends with a sleeve on the strap, ratchets are super good, forward lean is easy to adjust. The whole things feels super quality (other than the SZ pull toggles but to be honest they probably don't need to be any better than they are, after all you only pull them a couple of times a day and there is no stress on them other than that). THIS IS NOT A LIGHTWEIGHT BINDING THOUGH. Those who need to gain a few extra inches of air by shaving grams from their kit should look elsewhere. First impressions are great, I will wait to see how the toggle performs on the hill when lifts open mid November and re-post a review for that and overall performance..
