This is the ultimate tool to keep your head, neck and face warm as you tackle any peak. The face mask attaches with Velcro. All this Velcro permits instant switching between complete coverage and total ventilation. For in-between conditions, the mask can be removed, the main Velcro can be left closed, and the balaclava's contoured chin can be rolled back under your chin. Handling exhalation is another of its fortes. The big gorilla nose provides unrestricted flow when breathing becomes strenuous, and the face mask incorporates an impermeable layer so it never freezes up. In addition, the mask's upper edge is contoured so that goggles seal it to the face and greatly reduce the amount of fog-causing breath that can get to the lens.

I'd been looking for a long time for a balaclava that would be easy to put on and take off while fully clothed with my jacket already on, and the velcro fastners that the Gorilla provides is just the ticket. The ability to remove or adjust the nose/mouth cover makes it all that much more perfect.When properly fastened, it really protects the head and provides a great deal of warmth against the strongest winds that can possibly come up on the highest of mountains. This balacalava is, in my judgement, a winner!

I looked for years for a Ski Mask with velco mouth/nose covering and finally Outdoor Research has made one. This is the best "frost free" mask that I have ever seen, a wonderful product!

Those that complain about the awkward fit with this product are right. Once I got used to it after a couple of tries though, I felt very satisfied overall. You just have to strap it nice & snug, yet comfortable.

Well it does what it's supposed to but I have to admit the design is flawed. The front baffle is velcroed to the headmask which doesn't seal perfectly no matter how hard I tried. If the nose and mouth piece were one piece with the head piece I think I would have given it a 5.

Overall this looks like a great product. Perhaps it is just me but it is a very difficult fit. The flap cover that attaches via a Velcro strip sits crooked across my chin. I tried to get it straight however no success.Instead of wrestling with this any further I will be returning it. Other than a very complicated fit/Velcro attachment system , the materials look to be of high quality.

The balaclavadoes does what it is intended to do. To block wind thus keeping your face warm. It is not very comfortable. I do not like how the side velcro straps hang out a little on one side. It also feels stiff around the chin area also. If you are looking for a windstopper for your face that you can adjust from full face to partial then this is it. Just do not expect it to be comfortable.
