In Barrow Alaska, well below freezing working with helicopters. the Parka works very well... great insulation and the zip off Faux fur works well as a collar or as a hood / snorkel liner. Pockets are adequate and hold my winter gloves and hat. Shipping was prompt and the price was the lowest available.

I had been looking to buy the McMurdo Parka for awhile now. Always looking around for a deal or sale. I finally decided to buy the jacket from Altrec when I saw it on sale. Living in the northeast, it's always a good idea to have that one super warm jacket that will protect you for the brutal cold. I had owned another parka which just wasn't doing the job. After I finally got the McMurdo, I just waited for that bitter cold day to arrive. This jacket is fantastic. I wore a t-shirt underneath with this jacket on, you still stay nice and toasty. If you wear the hood then you can't even tell it's blistering cold outside. The jacket feels nice too, very comfortable, well made. I like all the internal pockets since I need places to carry my phone, mp3 player, etc. I highly recommend this jacket to everyone looking to stay warm in the winter.

With three children who play ice hockey i spend a lot of time in cold places. I was looking for a warm, comfortable jacket with a lot of accessible pockets and i found it in the North Face McMurdo Parka. Similar coats from other brands did not have the detachable hood which was a plus for me with the McMurdo. wearing this coat is like wrapping yourself in a down sleeping bag. cozy!

Would highly recommend. It is the warmest jacket I have ever warn. I've warn it in -20 degree weather, and i still feel like im next to a fire. Many pocket are also convenient.

This jacket is huge. We got XL because my husband finds North Face Large a bit 'firm' - and the XL McMurdo is so enormous I cant imagine how useful it will be as it seems too much for a quick trip to the supermarket in sub-zero. The hood is too big and flops down over his face - It really needs a catch (Like My TNF jacket has) to pull the hood back off his face.Having said all that, the jacket is just what you'd want if you had to stand still (or move around a tiny bit) in the freezing cold - I dont know - Ice fishing? We ended up going out and buying the Mountain Hardware 650 down jacket (light, maneuverable) to get the exact thing we were looking for (i.e. A very warm versitile coat). He loves the look - but the bulk is a bit restricting. So we're not sending it back. You never know, maybe we'll try the ice fishing this winter!

good down parka, good hood with phaux fur. too, too much velcro and label claims only a certain per cent to be down. once you remove all the velcro, it is a good parka in the cold weather. it has a waterproof membrane, but it is too warm to wear if it is raining and not below freezing. I do not understand TNF, they put snaps on the wind flap and velcro everywhere else. they should have snapped some of the internal pockets, not velcro. Internal cuff in sleeve works well, why velcro on the outside?
