This highly cushioned, lightweight trail running shoe features a durable mesh upper with a skeletal frame, outstanding Max Air cushioning and sure-footed tread. Maximum impact cushioning. The brutal, repetitive, downward force of sport can wreak havoc on the body - and on performance. Air Max cushioning is specifically engineered to handle these impacts and provide protection. Air Max is big air designed to take a pounding.

Bruce Harder - 2008-08-16Good cushioning, versatile
This shoe seems to run about a half size smaller than other Nike running shoes in the same size. I had to go up a half size for a better fit. The toe box is a wee bit narrower than the Assail IV. I like the design of the Assail IV upper better because it didn't have external strapping directly over the little toe like the Assail V has. It has a glove like fit. I'm hoping the upper stretches a bit. The Assail V is very versatile and can be worn anywhere road or trail or for casual wear.

I use my Nike trail running shoes to do the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment. I'm a 245-pound guy, so I'm very conscious of both wear...and tear. These are a solid pair of shoes.
