A true cross trainer for the outdoor lifestyle, the Vasque Women's Kota Day Hiker is light enough for trail running, yet supportive enough for carrying an overnight pack or scrambling on off-trail routes. This shoe is perfect for a wide variety of people, from the person who has a casual interest in hiking, scrambling, and backpacking but doesn't want to buy a different pair of shoes for each activity. It's also well suited for the achievement minded person who regularly probes deep into the wilderness on marathon one-day and overnight excursions. Integrated technology combines the outsole, molded thermoplastic urethane (TPU) plate, and compression molded EVA insole into a protective and supportive underfoot unit that feels tough and stable, ready to tackle a rocky trail or kick up some dust on a trail run. Although the upper does not have as much mesh content as a traditional trail running shoe, the Vasque Kota Day Hiker for women instead uses a combination of 1.8mm waterproof nubuck and pig suede leather as the primary upper materials for improved weather resistance and greater durability. And for snug support that feels great on uneven terrain, the laces link into a pair of angled webbing straps on either side of the instep to wrap the upper material around the foot.

These shoes feel great. They aren't narrow at the toes like other athletic shoes I've tried. They also run true-to-size. I'm usually and 8 1/2, but have had to exchange shoes I've ordered online for a size 9. These shoes were the right size from the beginning. They also have removable insoles so you can use your own inserts if you need them.

This is my first pair of a low cut hiking shoes and they are outstanding! Excellent for hiking or just walking dog. Walk 10-12 miles per week on mostly paved trails and sidewalks. Very stable and lightweight with great looks to wear casually for any occasion.

I don't know if I had just pure luck when ordering my first ( and very essential!) hiking accessory without even trying them on but these day hikers are wonderful! I usually take between a size 8 1/2 and 9 and ordered the 8 1/2 in these and they fit like a glove, even with a thick pair of SmartWools. Wore these for about 5-6 hours hiking through a waterfall path in CT, among slippery rocks as well as bushwacking off of the path and they were just great. The only concern would be that they don't cover much more than an sneaker in the ankle area, but this is pretty fine in the summer heat anyhow. I would definitely recommend these.
